MAN UNITED PLUNGED INTO COVID-19 CRISIS AS MULTIPLE COACHES TEST POSITIVE

Image
Manchester United are experiencing a Covid-19 outbreak among their coaching staff. At least three members of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team are reported to have tested positive for the virus, according to a Daily Mirror exclusive. The affected members of staff are thought to have tested positive for coronavirus before United's 4-0 demolition of Real Sociedad in the Europa League, and therefore did not travel to Turin for the fixture. United are refusing to name the affected coaches but insist no players have returned positive tests. The match between Manchester United and Newcastle United on Sunday evening will go ahead as planned. Solskjaer will be joined by Nicky Butt and youth coach Mark Dempsey in the dugout at Old Trafford, a club statement confirmed. "Nicky Butt and Mark Dempsey will join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the bench this evening due to some of the coaching staff having to self isolate," the statement read. "The home Premier League game against Newcastl...

PREMIER LEAGUE PLAYERS MUST ISOLATE FOR 10 DAYS AFTER EUROPEAN GAMES

Image
New government guidance issued to Premier League clubs means players and staff returning from away fixtures in Europe will need to isolate for 10 days. The Athletic say that the 10-day period can, however, be halved provided an individual can return a negative Covid-19 test after five days of isolation and - crucially - that those involved are still permitted to train and play in competitive fixtures. Whereas those clubs competing in the Champions League and Europa League competitions had not previously had any restrictions placed on them when arriving back from overseas trips, the new guidance means they will have to follow quarantine regulations akin to those in place for other members of the general public. With the return of international fixtures scheduled for next month, the guidance also says that any individuals selected to represent their countries must remain strictly to their sporting bubble to avoid any extended periods of isolation when they return. As things stand, ...

JUVENTUS THE NEXT TEAM TO GET AMAZON PRIME DOCUMENTARY TREATMENT

Image
So far, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have both already got the Amazon Prime documentary treatment, with differing results. City's looked at an incredible season which saw them win the league and garner 100 Premier League points in the process. Then it was Spurs' turn, and while they saw absolutely no success (in fact it was a disaster of a season), it was definitely more entertaining. A look at Jose Mourinho desperately trying to get a team into the top four, all while battling bad injury luck and Covid? Box office. Next up to the bat is Juventus, for what will undeniably be an interesting watch. The latest season of All or Nothing will follow the Italian giants through the current 2020/21 season. It has been a disappointing season for the Old Lady so far, though it will be fascinating to see rookie coach Andrea Pirlo managing one of the biggest clubs in the world through such difficult times. Plus, we should all know better than to write Cristiano Ronaldo off, even ...

16-year-old footballer banned for nine months for taking banned substance

Image
A 16-year-old footballer has been banned from all sport for nine months for an anti-doping offence. The name of the footballer has not been revealed due to their age. The player was found in possession of a dispenser containing a growth hormone called somatropin, which is banned at all times under the WADA 2019 Prohibited List. The FA charged the player last summer when he was 15 years old, alleging a breach of their 2019/20 Anti-Doping Regulations. The case was then looked at in January 2021 by an independent Regulatory Commission, who sanctioned the teenager with a nine month ban. The ban will end in May this year, however, with the time the player spent suspended by the FA last year considered part of the ban. UK Anti-Doping Director of Operations, Pat Myhill said: "Athletes, their parents and the teams they play for, all have a role to play in helping to keep sport clean. This case demonstrates that the anti-doping rules apply to all athletes, regardless of age, and serves a...

Joey Barton Returns To Mangement With Bristol Rovers

Image
Joey Barton has been appointed as the new manager of Bristol Rovers, the club has confirmed. The 38-year-old left Fleetwood Town at the start of January after nearly three years at the club and has now agreed a contract until 2023 at the Memorial Stadium. Barton, whose playing career saw him represent Manchester City, Newcastle, Burnley and Rangers, becomes the third manager at Rovers this season. Paul Tisdale left the club after less than three months at the helm earlier this month, having replaced Ben Garner in November. Rovers currently sit just two points above the League One relegation zone having won only once in their last 12 games. "Joey's experience in the game is matched by his passion for coaching and delivering results, which made him a standout candidate for the role," the club's president, Wael Al Qadi, is quoted as saying on the club website. "He's got a good knowledge of the league already thanks to his spell at Fleetwood and has shown his c...
