Live from Home!
As citizen of the world is on lockdown as a step to flatten the COVID-19 cases’ curve, artists around the globe had been performing entertainment live through social media from home.
Local rising artist Seri Khodijah or her stage name KidKhodi had been doing exactly that to provide entertainment to local music fans. Through her hit song ‘Cowona Time’ released during the Movement Control Order (MCO), her popularity rose from there and began to perform live through her social media.
Khodi talks about behind the scenes, how she prepares herself before the live and what did she gain from all that.
Who inspired you to do this?
“As an artist under Sony Music MY. My live sessions are usually planned ahead by my management team.”
“During the MCO, doing live sessions is relevant as it is the only platform for artists to perform and showcase their art to a crowd.”
What does this mean to you as an artist?
“Being honest, I’ve only recently been very active on my social media accounts due to this MCO. As I have more time to plan out content to post. I’ve gained a lot of interactions and people are starting to notice me more.”
“As an artist, it’s good to constantly create new content and write new music. Being able to share it during my live sessions and getting good feedback from my viewers is already an achievement to me.”
Which platform do you use to perform?
“Instagram”
Do you use any strategy or plan to attract audiences or viewers before going on live?
“As a performer, it is vital for me to prepare my setlist ahead of time. As it ensures that I have a smooth flow during my live session. Sometimes before the live session I would ask my followers for song suggestions/topics to talk about so that my live session is more interactive.”
“Sound quality is very important to me. I will make sure that I’ve set up my proper equipment beforehand. Having good internet connection is also really important.”
“In my opinion, viewers will enjoy and stay throughout the live session when details like this is taken care of.”
Has your popularity rose after you performed?
“It did because I collaborated with other IG accounts. For example, I hosted a live session on Jao Tim’s and Atas Angin’s Instagram account. Besides that, going on live with other artists also helps.
What do you gain by doing this?
“I’ve gained more interactions on my social media accounts because I’ve been active interacting with my followers.”
“I’ve also collaborated with many talented local musicians during this MCO. By having the support of my friends and followers on social media it motivates me more to create more music/content as most people genuinely enjoy it.”
