We have seen multiple colours had been worn by goalkeepers over the years, but which colour can actually make a difference? Let's find out.

Not many people is aware of this but the colour choices are important as it more or less has an effect psychologically on opposition players.  We seen many goalkeeper kits throughout the years like the Danish shot-stopper Peter Schmeichel in the '92 Euros wearing a a bright colour kit and obviously the plains like all black, yellow and etc., but which one is the best colour?

Well, according to a study by Ian Greenless, the best colour for a goalkeeper to wear is Red. He examined the proposition that competing against red-clad opponents hinders the performance of football athletes. 40 experienced players took 10 penalty kicks against a goalkeeper wearing a black jersey and, 1 week later, took 10 penalty kicks against a goalkeeper wearing either a red, green, blue, or yellow jersey. Prior to each set of kicks, participants reported their expectancy of success.

"Players facing red-clad goalkeepers scored on fewer penalty kicks than those facing either blue- or green-clad goalkeepers, but no differences in expectancy of success emerged. The findings indicate that athletes wearing red may have an advantage over their opponents." said Greenless.

"The colour Red fills Penalty taker with fears." added Greenlees.

In open play, It is somewhat enticing players to shoot straight at the goalkeeper. Magnet.

Ben Foster (pix) made a total of 996 stops during his Watford PL era where he donned the colour red most games.

Another study made by Egemen Ermiş on The Effects of the Colours on the Performances of the Soccer Players and Soccer Goalkeeper stated that In the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the players who took the first place in the goal kingdom generally played with the red, white and blue T-shirt and shorts colour. Majority of the goalkeepers at the world cup wears the colour green (22.32%), followed by black (17.86%), and third is yellow (16.96%).

"It is determined that soccer players which used bright colors for t-shirt and shorts were more successful in World Cup 2018. As a result, it can have positive effects at success from color worn on the soccer players and goalkeeper." said Ermiş.
